Just a reminder that SWFCHS will be holding an Open House at Century Village this Saturday, May 25th. It will run from 2-4p at 4185 Orders Road. Docents will be on hand throughout the village, guiding you as you tour our historical buildings. Hope to see you there!
1921 Fires
In 1921, several major fires occurred in Grove City. Residents were concerned and approved a $25,000 bond issue for a 100,000-gallon water tank and two new wells. Water lines were run throughout the village and fire hydrants were located on every street with 45 pounds of water pressure. This is one of Grove City’s current water towers.
Grant-Sawyer Video Tour
We have now posted a video tour of the Grant-Sawyer Home on our website. It is broken out into two parts covering the two floors. Steve Jackson, SWFCHS President, is your host on the tour.
Breckenridge Farm
This 1930 era photo of the John and Margaret Holton Breckenridge farm was taken from an Indian mound on the east side of Jackson Pike, Rt. 104. A car can be seen on the road passing the property and the old homeplace.
Dutch Pike
Can you identify this location? Once called Dutch Pike, it today would be the intersection of Grove City Road and Broadway. Look closely and you will see the interurban track in the foreground. This picture was taken around 1898. City Hall now occupies the right side of the photo. On the left is where the gazebo is located.
