Roberta Camp Albert was 23 years old when she was crowned Miss Ohio in 2007. She lived in Grove City attending the Ohio State University. As part of her competition, she endorsed the theme “Change Our World: Build Character.” She felt it was important to teach young people the difference between right and wrong and help them make the right decisions in life.

Seeds’ Commission

Cyrus Seeds received a letter from a cousin Jan. 14, 1864 who was with the Union Army in Alabama. The letter said he had to make a difficult decision about his military service. His commanding officer said if he reenlisted, he would be commissioned a first lieutenant. There was a condition. He could only receive the commission if at least two thirds of the regiment pledged to reenlist. The outcome is unknown but the unidentified letter writer was most likely part of the blockade of Mobile Bay.

Dr. J. C. Sommer

Dr. J. C. Sommer was a 1913 graduate of the Starling Medical College in Columbus. Around 1922, he moved to Grove City and began his practice in the office of the late Dr. Herman W. Geissinger on Park Street across from the railroad depot. He was active in the community once serving as a member of the board of education. J. C. Sommer Elementary is named in his honor. The picture shows the early medical office.
