The Columbus Dispatch Sunday Magazine introduced Grove City’s two police dogs in 1963. Pictured is Glenn Stoll with his German Sheperd, Rusty. Lowell (Gene) Downey also had a trained dog named Prince. The dogs were mostly used in burglary investigations. The program was introduced by Police Chief E. L. Evans and were trained by the Air Force at Lockbourne AFB (Rickenbacker Port Authority).

Agnes A. Eyerman, a high school teacher, was the first advisor for the newly created National Honor Society at Grove City High School in 1958. Sara Swaney, in 1909, is credited with introducing a music program in Grove City’s early schools around 1909.

Join us 12-4 p.m., Saturday, June 8 in Fryer Park, 4185 Orders Road for our annual Heritage Celebration. Bring the family to experience a taste of everyday life in an Ohio farm community in the late 1800s through building tours and demonstrations as history comes to life among the buildings of Century Village. The Village Pickers will provide Bluegrass music on the Kegg Log House porch, and the Society will have their historical booklets and items for sale in the Black House General Store.

The event is free, and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

This photograph was provided by the late Robert Gunderman, city law director. It was taken at Grant’s Grove at Beulah Park. The picture was a Grossman reunion and was in the possession of Gunderman’s grandfather, Emil Grossman. The band was identified as Libey’s Band which is believed to be Grove City’s earliest group of musicians. The men are standing in front of several horse drawn wagons and carriages.
