Simmons vs Myers

Democrat Ilene Simmons was the first woman to serve on Grove City Council.   She was appointed to fill an unexpired term by then Mayor George M. Haughn.  When it came time to stand for election, Ilene faced another female, Republican opponent, A. Jeanette Myers. Myers won the election and became the first woman elected to city council.  This occurred in the early 1970s.
